It wasn’t
only a very nice coulisse and the weather showed itself from
the best side, but the main point was that you saw a very
surprised Thomas who went back home quite “richer” that
before. The recording for the show “SWR Auf Tour” on Edesheim
castle was on the 25th of August 2011. The whole
day became a real hide-and-seek, but on this point I will
focus later some more detailed.
I got the idea in the
end of 2008. The German singer Mary Roos became a treasure
chest with greetings from colleges for her 50th
stage jubilee. I thought to myself “When I start now, I will
finish a book for Thomas 40th stage jubilee on
time, just to give him something back for all his great
music”. So I began with some breaks to collect the greetings
from his colleges, of course of those, who had a meaning in
the carrier of Thomas. So I had very nice meetings with Isabel
Varell, The Scorpions or Joy Fleming. And those I had on the
telephone or via mail sent me some nice letters via post or
mail, like Glenn Medeiros, The Three Degrees, Johann Lafer or
Dieter Thomas Heck.
With the management on my side, we
searched since February 2011 an acceptable place for the
delivery. We had many ideas and many talks. And finally the
way guided us to Edesheim castle, because the SWR liked the
idea. Additionally to the 50 greetings I made 20 chapters of
Thomas life and some funny anecdotes.
After some mails
and telephone calls I went on the 25th of August at
15:30 o’clock to Edesheim castle. My appointment calendar
wasn’t that full as signed out in the letter of the SWR.
Thomas and I weren’t allowed to meet each other before,
because it should be a surprise for him. First I went into the
cellar of the castle where the catering and the make up room
was. After some time Thomas’ manager came, searching for me in
the cellar and gave me all-clear for some parts of the castle,
because Thomas and Uwe were in the café. Suuuper…so I could
get some fresh air. But when I went outside Thomas walked,
telephoning towards me. I jumped behind the next wall.
The
whole day I had to jump behind cars, walls and one time it was
under a table, as Thomas walked by to the make up room. Every
time when someone shouted “ANDERS|FAHRENKROG ARE COMING” it
was for me the sign to hide myself. When they had their
rehearsal, I listened in the background. As this was
completely finished I could get for short on the stage for
some instructions, because Thomas was dangerously near.
Inside the castle I could talk to the whole SWR staff and
for example to Ireen Sheer. With her I was in the make up
room. Around 19:45 I went to the stage to get to my seat.
Together with my parents, one man of the SWR and the district
administrator I sat in row three. The show had an awesome
beginning with “No more tears on the Dancefloor” and a talk
and a brilliant ending with “Gigolo”.
But also in between the
show was funny and diversified. Every artist appeared two
times in this show. Peter Horton, Ireen Sheer, Geschwister
Hofmann, The Ten Sopranos and Miriam Meißner. Additionally you
got information about vine and chocolate marshmallows and
funny things with Waltraud and Mariechen.
Years ago, it was
his NORA-necklace, today it’s beaten egg whites. This is a
sentence of Thomas that says it all.
Because he had to make, in the end of the show together
with Geschwister Hofmann and Waltraud and Mariechen some
beaten egg whites. With a new record of just 38 seconds Thomas
won this contest.

And while this contest and got into
position in front of a Steadycam. And than everything went
fast. While I got on the stage the moderator asked Thomas,
whether he knows me. Thomas answered: “Of course I know
Andreas” After Thomas welcomed me I began to tell him about my
idea and flipped up the book. With a warm thank you and a hug
Thomas was thankfull. Of course the shows lasted only 1,5
hours, so they cut out some scenes. I had the impression that
Thomas was really really surprised.
After the show we
had some time to have a look into the book. Thomas’ comments
“Wow, everyone wrote something for me” and his surprised and
partly absent gaze was a great pleasure for me, because that
was my aim. To spread under his colleges that he is 40 years
on stage, that he will get what he deserves. With some
chocolate marshmallows and good talks the evening ended, as
Thomas and Uwe went in different directions to different
appointments.
I got to my hotel room and watched a bit
TV and went on the next day to the BUGA in Coblence. It was
nice but the weather in the end was terrible. All in all
really nice and exciting two days. It is nice to see how ideas
grow and get bigger and bigger and after all to get rewarded
with such a speechless and touched Thomas.
Dear Thomas,
I think everything has been said in the book. Cheers, Cheers
for further 40 years on stage. Thanks to the Management and to
the SWR for the support. And of course thank you to Uwe and
Thomas for the harmonic appearance. I have no regrets; every
minute work was worth it.
Sincerely yours Andreas
